ANZAC Day Broadcast 2014

3WBC’s broadcast of the ‘Anzac Day Dawn Stand To’ was hosted by Peter Cassidy from the Box Hill RSL. Prior to the ceremony, a narration by former 3WBC presenter, Keith Dunn, regarding the landing of the ANZACS at Gallipoli on April 25th, 1915, was played.

The ceremony began at 5.45am with the arrival of the Catafalque Party formed, this year, by members of the 305 Army Cadet Unit. Box Hill RSL President, Tony Bowden welcomed everyone and spoke about the local citizens who went to Gallipoli and the many who never returned. Chaplain Barry Sutton, recited the ‘Lord’s Prayer’.

This was followed by the laying of wreaths by Tony Bowden and ‘City of Whitehorse’ Mayor Cr. Sharon Ellis; the Federal Member for Chisholm, Anna Burke and the State Member for Box Hill, Robert Clark; representatives of World War 2, Malaya, Borneo, Korea and Vietnam veterans; the TPI Association; Squadrons; the ‘National Servicemen’s Association, Upton House, The Box Hill RSL Women’s Auxiliary; the Box Hill Legacy Ladies; the Balwyn War Widows; Cub, Scout and Guide groups and schools. Visitors were also invited to lay wreaths.

Box Hill RSL Vice President,Trevor Symes recited ‘The ANZAC Memorial’ then the names of Box Hill RSL members who have passed away during the last twelve months were read by Box Hill RSL Member, Charles Cook.

‘The ANZAC Ode’ was recited followed by the playing of ‘The Last Post’ by Bugler, Bradley Todd and the singing of ‘Advance Australia Fair’.

Following the ceremony, Peter Cassidy interviewed Squadron Leader Adam Lawson, who has recently returned from duty in Afghanistan.
